Birdies help Craven to top prize

RICHARD CRAVEN is the new club champion at Caversham Heath.

Craven claimed the Club Championship trophy with two shots to spare over his nearest rival over two rounds at the weekend having recorded rounds of 73 and 80 for a total of 153. Runner-up was David Brown with 155 and third was Alex Easter with 157.

Craven was a clear leader after day one with three birdies in his round of 73, but the outcome was decided over the back nine on Sunday.

With five holes to play there was one two shots covering Craven, Brown and Easter. However, Brown bogeyed two of his last three holes to lose his chance of snatching the title.

After Easter birdied two of his first eight holes, he looked the man most likely but he then recorded six bogeys, including five in his last six holes.
