HENLEY Golf Club’s senior champion Steve Webb ran out winner of this year’s Jubilee Cup on Sunday.

HENLEY Golf Club’s senior champion Steve Webb ran out winner of this year’s Jubilee Cup on Sunday.

Due to the windy conditions the scores were not great and of the 92 players taking part it was only Webb who managed to beat his handicap and win the trophy with a net 67.

Gordon Capel was runner-up on countback with a level par net 70 from 18 handicapper James Steel.

Bernie Clark led a group of eight players who recorded a net 71 which included Graham Horner, Gareth Morley, Mark Farina, Colin Grimmett, Ron Jacobs, Phil Booth and Len Leigh.

In the ladies’ section Jocelyn Brown won the Pedler Cup and Hurst Trophy with a score of 39 points in the top division on countback from Muriel Quinsac. Maggi Buffin was third with a net 37.

Division 2 was won by Gail Henderson with a score of 35 points which was two better than Ngairey Palin. Lynne Carter and Rita Sharman-Crawford were two points back in third place.

Miriam Dalton took Division 3 with a score of 37 points which was one better than runner-up Val Foster whilst Jacqui McCourt took third place with 35, a point better than fourth placed Christine Breeze.

Division 4 was won by Caroline Thomas with a score of 38 on countback from runner-up Erica Brady. Anne Davis and Sheila Needham were six points behind.

This weekend sees the men’s club championships being held over the two days with the cut taking place on Saturday evening and the top 24 playing for the club’s most prestigious competition on Sunday.

Once again five time winner James Brockington is unable to take part so defending champion Guy Phillips will be aiming to retain the title he won last June. He will experience stiff competition from 2004 champion Dave Griffin, Chris Maxted and Colin Grimmett.
