Lovelock maintains winning run with Pedler Cup triumph

THE ladies’ section of Henley Golf Club were represented in the final of the Help for Heroes national clubs challenge competition at the Shire Golf Club in Barnet, where they eventually finished fourth.
The team consisted of Gail Henderson, Janet Lawson, Dot Owen, Val Foster and Jillie Drucker.
Three handicapper Marcus Lovelock, who won the President’s Day competition two weeks earlier, recorded a gross 66 (net 63) to claim the Pedler Cup competition last Sunday.
Richard Fenn recorded a net 66 to take the runner-up spot on countback from Phil Booth and Ross Belcher. Marcel Petrie and David La Touche recorded net 68s which was a shot better than Guy North, Stewart Jennings, Danny Franks and Keith Packer. In all 22 players managed to match and even beat their handicap.
David Voss and his partner George Wronski were successful in the Charles Luker Cup which is the qualifying competition for the Autumn Foursomes knockout competition.
They managed 35 foursomes Stableford points to win the competition which was a single point better than runners-up Cliff Austin and Richard Fenn. Ian Norris and his partner David Wilkes also recorded 34 points to take third spot from immediate past captain Mike Heayns and his partner Chris O’Donnell.
The beginning of the year saw Allan Harries take on the role as club president at Badgemore Park and last Sunday saw his first Presidents day.
The morning saw 18 teams of four heading out to a shotgun start to play a three, two, one format competition — one score to be recorded on par fives, two scores on par fours and three scores on par threes.
With a score of 112 and 10 points ahead of their nearest rivals, the winning team consisted of Brent Levitt, Lesley Shurman, Eric Marwood and Mark Stevens, who managed to birdie all four par threes.
Countback had to be used to decide the Division 1 winner of the weekend stableford at Caversham Heath. John Downey just got the nod from Hollis Boisson, both with 40 points. Third was Stuart Webb with 39 points.
Division 2 winner was Neil Duguid with 40 points. Countback had to be used to decide the next four places with Scott Munro getting the runners-up verdict from Steven Chambers, Richard Norris and Andrew Johnson, all with 38 points. Division 3 was won by Greg McDonald with 43 points.
