FOUR handicapper Ian Heggie warmed up for his Fleming Cup final match this weekend against club captain Dave Sexon by winning the Wetton Cup at Henley last Sunday with a net 66.
Heggie recorded three birdies in the last five holes to win the competition on countback from Tony Sanderson and Jeff Ellis. Colin Grimmett recorded the best gross score of 70 (net 67) to take fourth spot which was a shot better than Mike Walker, Paul Thomalla and Keith Brockington.
Dave Crooks, Stephen Brown and Ross Belcher all had good rounds by beating their handicaps with net 69s.
The ladies’ section also held their medal winners’ competition last week where Division 1 was won by Jocelyn Brown with a net 72 which was a shot better than Helga Keay and Maggi Buffin. Sarah Arnold scored a net 68 to win the competition in this division on the previous Saturday.
Division 2 and silver medal winner was won by Suzy Smith with a net 68 which was a shot better than Gail Henderson. Christine Valentine was third in this division with a level par net 70.
It was close in Division 3 with Tina Dalzall pipping ladies’ vice-captain Marie-Paule Norgrove on countback with net 72 which was a shot better than Patricia Melling.
Division 4 was won by Erica Brady with a net 67 which resulted in a three point reduction in her handicap. Anne Davis was runner-up with a net 69 on countback from Jenny Copeland.
