Eight in a row for Caversham

CAVERSHAM Heath Golf Club have been crowned the Central Sevens League Division 3 champions.

CAVERSHAM Heath Golf Club have been crowned the Central Sevens League Division 3 champions.

The success means they have gained promotion to Division 2, the second successive season they have won promotion as last year they were promoted after finishing runners-up in Division 4.

This year they played 12 matches, winning eight, drawing one and only losing three.

Team members Darren Bonney and Chris Stacey just missed out on winning the order of merit after finishing second and third respectively.

During the season 14 players were used - Clive Adamson (captain), Chris Stacey, Darren Bonney, Barry Reynolds, Conor Kavanagh, John Purnell, Gareth Ford, Dave Wise, Sam Weller, Luis Mesquita, Clive Morris, Stephen Beresford, Dave Little and Adam Minnett.

Caversham Heath have retained The Spring’s Cup following a 4-2 win at The Springs. They have now won the cup for eight consecutive times.

There was a tight finish in Division 1 of the monthly medal with James Millard just getting the verdict on countback from Michael Beaumont and Barney Wytchard, all with net 71.

Division 2 winner was former Reading FC player Ken Price with net 67. Runner-up was Clive Adamson on countback from Gareth Ford, both with net 70.

Kevin Iley topped Division 3 with net 67. Second was Stephen Gelsthorpe with net 69 and third was Stephen McKenzie with net 73.

Stephen Beresford took the Division 1 prize in the midweek medal at a canter, recording a fine net 69 - six shots better than his nearest rival. Runner-up was Stephen Gelsthorpe with net 76 and third was John Sandall with net 76.

Division 2 winner was Stewart Kennedy with a net 73. Second was Lynne Rumbold with net 75 and third was Michael Biles with net 78.

James Millard won the October junior Stableford competition with 40 points. Runner-up was Will Tate with 29 points and third was Matthew Beresford with 19.
