THERE was a tight finish to Division 1 of the midweek Stableford at Caversham Heath with just one point separating the top eight players.
Matthew Brakspear and Tony Gonzalez both scored 38 points, but Brakspear won on countback thanks to a birdie on the last hole, a hole Gonzalez was only able to bogey.
In a mad scramble for third place, six players all recorded 37 points. Countback gave the decision to Lee Kirton thanks to 23 points on the back nine. The players edged out were Andre Claassen, Scott Iremonger, Barry Rulton, Stephen Beresford and Peter King.
The round of the day went to Simon Dicketts who posted 45 points to win Division 2. Dicketts has been playing consistently for a number of weeks and his 23 points on the front and 22 on the back saw a three-shot reduction to his handicap.
Tony Cole finished runner-up with 33 points with Carole Winter third place with 31.
