Bonney triumphs in close encounter

THERE was a tight finish in Division 1 of the Midweek Stableford at Caversham Heath

THERE was a tight finish in Division 1 of the Midweek Stableford at Caversham Heath with the top three players all scoring the same number of points.

Darren Bonney emerged victorious on countback from Edward Houghton and Matt Robertson, all with 40 points.

Division 2 winner was Keith Taylor with 40 points. Runner-up was Brian Dilley, on countback from Issy Wiggins-Turner, Michael Busher and John North, all with 38 points.

James Millard won the junior masters medal with net 77. Second was Callum Peart with net 80 and third was Thomas Parker with net 82.

The junior trio of Matt Robertson, James Millard and Callum Peart came away from the Junior Champion Club event played at East Berkshire with their heads held high. Without the benefit of a practice round, the three finished 10th out of a field of 22, ahead of Bearwood Lakes, Beaconsfield, Sonning and Royal Ascot.

The Central Sevens team triumphed in the cup over South Cerney Blue. Gareth Goodall and Lee Kirton went out first and managed a half. Captain Chris Stacey partnered Dave Stankard to a one-up victory before Clive Adamson and Mick Beaumont delivered a seven and six win to see the club through to the next round.

Caversham Heath Ladies lost 2.5-1.5 away against Goring and Streatley. Jane Weller and Caroline Dover secured a good half in the first match and Lynne Rumbold and Pamela Stapeley strolled to a three and two win.
