Former winner secures trophy

FORMER Lovell Bowl winner Marcel Petrie won this year’s competition at Henley Golf Club on Saturday.

FORMER Lovell Bowl winner Marcel Petrie won this year’s competition at Henley Golf Club on Saturday.

The annual running of the 36-hole competition was equivalent to the club championship but with handicaps taken into consideration.

After the morning round nine handicapper Mike Prince had recorded a net 66 to lead by one shot from Petrie. Neil Kelly and Guy Outram were one shot further back with net 68s.

Petrie, who won the event in 2013 recorded a net 66 in the afternoon to take the competition again. George Maxted (seven handicap) recorded the best score of the day, a net 65 to take the runner-up spot on countback from Kelly. Dave Griffin recorded a round of three under (137) to take fourth spot which was a shot better than Chris Maxted. Dave Williams and Mike Prince were the only other starters of a field of 59 players to better their handicaps.

The ladies’ medal was also held recently and Sally Birkett recorded a net 67 to win the competition which was six shots better than Janet Lawson. Karen Pollard and Sarah Arnold were close behind with net 74s.
