Cannon fights back to secure county trophy

KJERSTI CANNON made it a hat-trick of wins for Caversham Heath in the Ann Bryant

KJERSTI CANNON made it a hat-trick of wins for Caversham Heath in the Ann Bryant Trophy â?? a Berkshire county competition.

Cannon made it the third year in succession a lady from Caversham Heath has won the event â?? previously Jane Weller had recorded back-to-back wins.

In the final Cannon beat Judy Whittle (Donnington Valley) at a neutral venue, Goring and Streatley, after a sudden death play-off.

Three down with three to play Cannon’s chances did not look too good. However, she fought back in dramatic style to win all the final three holes to force another sudden death play-off. Cannon made sure of victory with a par on the last home.

Caversham Ladies have won the Ladies Invitational held at The Springs Golf Club.

Ten clubs contested the competition and Caversham Heath kept up their good record in the competition by scoring 98 points for victory.

With the best three scores to count the team was made up of Jane Weller, Kathy North, Kjersti Cannon and Caroline Dover.

Kathy North and Caroline Dover were also part of the winning mixed team, so the ladies returned with a bumper haul.

Caroline Dover is the new V&A Trophy knock-out cup holder.

In the final she beat Sarla Read. Dover had reached the final by defeating Lynne Rumbold in the semi with Read triumphing over Rachel Downey.

James Millard won the September junior medal with net 74. Runner-up was Archie Smith with net 75 and third was Jack Bristow with net 76.

Roger Landon won the Landon Seniors Matchplay where he beat Tony Cole in the final. Landon progressed to the final by defeating John Purnell, while Cole defeated John Sandall.
