Caversham trio team together to take top prize from club mates

THE Abbott Hill competition played out at Caversham Heath saw Andy Holmes and Jack Turrill tie for first place.

Holmes shot 38+30=68 while Turrill recorded 38+30=68. In joint third place were James Millard with 35+32=67 and Jim McGiveron with 37+30=67.

Jane Weller won the ladies’ yellow tee fun competition with 33 points. Runner-up was Rachel Downey with 30 points and third was Caroline Dover with 29.

The ladies’ Stableford competition was won by Caroline Dover with 35 points. Second was Lynne Rumbold with 31 points and third was Daphne Barker with 30.

A field of 34 took part in the Rod Starling Trophy Stableford at Caversham Heath, a competition that limits the player to just three clubs and a putter.



Keith Taylor was the overall winner, on countback from Simon Dicketts, both with 33 points, thanks to 20 points on the back nine. Dicketts had to settle for runner-up spot as his back nine only contributed 15 to his total. Robin McEvoy was third with 32 points.

The mixed team cruised to a 5.5-2.5 victory over Studley Wood on Sunday. There were wins for Anne Smith and James Murphy and Jim McGiveron and Fiona Ives, both pairs winning 7 and 6.

The ladies’ silver league team beat Hennerton 6-0 at Reading Golf Club with Julie Daniels and Sarah Lau winning 7 and 6, Wendy Bushell and Sarla Read won 6 and 5 and Lynne Rumbold and Jane Weller 5 and 4. On Monday, the ladies lost out at Goring and Streatley at Winter Hill. Caversham currently lie in third place in the Division 2 league table.

In the county team competition Rachel Downey, Debbie Harris and Angie Adamson defeated last year’s winners Lynne Rumbold, Susie Matheson and Kathy North were in the Berkshire County Ladies Golf Association (BCLGA) team competition played at The Club at Mapledurham on Saturday by one point.

Darren White took the Division A honours in the monthly medal at Badgemore Park last Saturday.

White took the top prize with a 77 net 65 score. Division B was won by Scott Arlett with an 82 net 65 while the Division C winner was Jasper Fulford-Dobson with 38 Stableford points.

Calum Miller, though not winning the competition, hit an eagle two on the tricky 308 yard par four 15th hole.

The following day Miller took Division A honours in the Sunday competition with a 71 net 64 score. Gordon Hannam won Division B with 83 net 66 while Lee Croft took the Division C honours with 39 Stableford points.

Miller was also successful in the Summer Eclectic competition that saw the final round played out on Sunday.

Earlier in the week the annual competition raising funds in aid of the NSPCC, the NSPCC Charity Putter, was won by Ollie Carder.
