Constans has a week to remember

JULIEN Constans had a good seven days at Caversham Heath, winning the midweek Stableford Division 1

JULIEN Constans had a good seven days at Caversham Heath, winning the midweek Stableford Division 1 competition, finishing third in the weekend Stableford and being in contention for a place in the nine holes Stableford.

Constans won Division 1 of the midweek Stableford with 39 points, following halves of 20 and 19 points. Runner-up was James Millard on countback from Matt Robertson, both with 37 points.

Millard shot five birdies in his round but lost his chance of top place after ending with three consecutive bogeys. Robertson had three birdies on his first nine of 21 points, but a nil return on the 12th hole proved costly.

Division 2 winner was Caroline Dover on countback from Simon Taylor, both with 38 points. Third was Toby Joyce with 37 points. Taylor ended with three double bogeys, but he did secure a five pointer with a birdie on the seventh hole. Joyce was hampered by recording two nil returns.

A few days before in the weekend Stableford Constans finished third in Division 1 with 38 points. The division was won by Archie Smith with 40 points and runner-up was Stephen Beresford with 39 points. Smith had even halves of 20 points — and he bogeyed the last. Beresford recorded three birdies while Constans had a double bogey on his last hole. Division 2 winner was David Cuthbertson with 39 points. Runner-up was Lee Kirton with 38 points and third was John Preston with 37 points. Cuthbertson recorded two birdies which yielded four points each in halves of 17 and 22 points. Kirton had halves of 20 and 18 points but a triple bogey on the 13th was very costly. A nil return hampered Preston’s progress.

Paul Lobban recorded a birdie on the 10th hole to pick up five points, and a birdie on the last hole to finish with 38 points to win Division 3. Runner-up was Nick Wilson with 35 points. Christopher Searle was third, on countback from Debbie Harris and Daniel Dover, all with 34 points. Searle clinched third spot thanks to a birdie on the last for four points. Harris lost out after recording a nil return on the last while Dover had a double bogey on his last.

Mervyn Jones won the nine holes Stableford competition last Friday on countback from David Holloway, both with 38 points. Third was Seamus Smith, on countback from Julien Constans and Garfield Bryant, all with 37 points.
