MEMBERS of Kennylands gymnastics club’s women’s artistic squad secured medals at the recent Oxfordshire county individual apparatus competition held at Abingdon.
The first round saw the youngest gymnasts, aged six and seven, compete in their first county competition. Kennylands had four gymnasts in this category, all of them coming away with silverware. Melissa Loyd finished first on the bars, Sadie Maguire-Ellis placed second on the vault, Jessica Telling finished second on floor and Evie Gillespie picked up a bronze medal on bars.
In the second round all five Kennylands gymnasts in the level five junior category came away with medals in a category consisting of 19 gymnasts. Ruby Gaynor performed well on beam and floor coming away with a gold medal on both, Sasha Bureau was first on vault and second on bars, Mary Jones picked up a silver medal on the floor and a bronze on vault, Daisy-May Stevens took silver on beam and Eloise Hackett claimed a bronze on the beam.
In the final round Kennylands had six gymnasts compete in the level four senior category featuring 21 gymnasts.
Julia Anton finished in first place on bars, Eleanor Siu took third place on vault and bars, Sophia Bell picked up a bronze medal, Ellen Fearnside secured third place on vault and Olivia Morgan finished fourth on beam, narrowly missing out on a bronze medal.
