Awarded black belt at age 66

A MAN from Goring has achieved a first degree black belt in Taekwondo at the age of 66.

Ralph Casbeard, who trains at Henley Taekwon-Do school, was awarded the title at a national grading seminar in Cardiff last weekend.

He was among eight other students to reach the black belt standard, including three members of the Scott family from Henley.

Steve and his two children, Fionnuala, 15 and Finnbar, 12, and their clubmates each had to complete various tests as part of their grading.

They included individual routines, sparring against one and two opponents and breaking boards with hands and feet. Adults also had to break bricks.

The Taekwon-Do School runs classes at Henley Leisure Centre on Mondays and at The Henley College on Wednesdays from 7pm to 9pm. For more information, call head coach Andy Whiteley on 07860 255353.
