‘Slow’ Ben notches up eighth half marathon win

ORGANISERS of the Henley half marathon breathed a sigh of relief when the weather stayed dry on Sunday.

About 1,500 runners took part in the event with 1,064 completing the half marathon and another 422 completing the accompanying Henley Standard 10km.

Last year was the wettest ever in the event’s 31-year history - only the second time it has rained during the races - and hundreds of people dropped out.

Peter Wilkinson, who organised the event on behalf of the Rotary Club of Henley Bridge, said: “We were delighted to wake up in the morning and see dry weather after last year.

“All the feedback from runners was that the weather made a difference and has all been very positive. People enjoyed themselves and were getting personal bests.
