THE opening of the new care home on the Townlands Hospital site has been pushed back by about a month.
The Orders of St John Trust home, which will replace the trust’s Chilterns End care home, off Greys Road, was due to be handed over by contractor Vinci to social housing provider bpha this month and open next month.
However, this has been put back as the project is behind schedule.
bpha, which is working with Oxfordshire County Council and the trust on the care home project, contracted Vinci to build it.
Sarah Ireland, director of development and sales at bpha, said: “The new care home will be completed in October.
“We are keeping the residents at Chilterns End fully informed and expect them to move in during November.
“There have been some unforeseen delays during the construction, which is not uncommon with a development of this size and complexity, but our priority has always been to ensure the new care home is delivered to the highest possible standards.”
The contract between bpha and Vinci stipulates that damages can be charged for loss of rent if the scheme is delayed but it also allows the contractor to apply for extensions to complete the project.
Any damages are calculated at the end of the contract.
