MORE than a decade after Townlands Hospital in Henley was threatened with closure, campaigners have finally triumphed.
A scheme to redevelop the York Road hospital was given conditional approval last week, ending almost 11 years of uncertainty over the town’s most vital public asset.
The project has seen many ups and downs, including nine separate delays that meant it slipped back more than three years behind the original date for completion.
Supporters were left angry and frustrated but they never gave up.
Ian Reissmann, a town councillor and chairman of the Townlands Steering Group, says the support of the town made the long battle worthwhile.
