GPs' Townlands contract still up in the air

DOCTORS in Henley are continuing to work at Townlands Hospital while contract negotiations continue.

DOCTORS in Henley are continuing to work at Townlands Hospital while contract negotiations continue.

GPs from the Bell and Hart surgeries and the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust are in negotiations about the running of services and visiting patients on Peppard ward.

In January the Henley Standard revealed that the two practices had lost the contract to care for patients at Townlands after almost 30 years.

This week Dr Philip Unwin, from the Hart Surgery, said he hoped a new contract would be signed by the end of the month after the previous one expired on March 31.

He said: ?We?re continuing to work there and we?re waiting for a suitable contract to be sent to us. They sent us a contract but it was an inappropriate contract for the work we?re doing.

?We?re hoping we can talk to them and come up with a solution. In the meantime, we?re just going to go on working as we have done.?

The Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust said the decision not to renew the contract was in order to increase medical provision at community hospitals across the county.

The Bell and Hart surgeries have worked together to provide cover at Townlands and the doctors visit every patient on the ward at least once a day.

They carry out patient reviews, check drug charts, discharge medication and organise blood and urine tests as well as writing up notes and completing other administrative tasks.
