Doctors’ strike put off

A PLANNED strike by junior doctors next week has been postponed.

A PLANNED strike by junior doctors next week has been postponed.

Medics at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading were due to take part in a nationwide walkout for 48 hours from 8am on Tuesday.

The action has been put back by the British Medical Association after progress was made in talks with the Government over a new contract for junior doctors. The BMA claims the proposed shift patterns would leave doctors worse off and put patients at risk while the Government says it is trying to create a seven-day NHS.

On Tuesday last week more than 20 medics walked out of the Royal Berks for 24 hours, meaning there was emergency cover only. Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust will not reveal the number of operations cancelled until next week.
