Your chance to be a young reporter

Your chance to be a young reporter

THE Henley Youth Festival and the Henley Standard have teamed up once again to invite all young writers and aspiring journalists to enter our Young Reporter competition.

Successful entrants, aged 11 to 16, will have the opportunity to report on an event at this year’s festival in March and then have their article and photographs published in the Henley Standard and on our website, www.henleystandard.co.uk

Up to six successful applicants will spend a morning at the Henley Standard offices with the editorial team on Saturday, February 24 to prepare their articles and pictures for publication. This is a great opportunity for any young person who enjoys writing or is perhaps thinking about a career in journalism.

Lily Mir, who reported on the festival’s Gig Night last year, says: “I really enjoyed watching all the performances and interviewing people.

“I was nervous at the start but everyone was friendly and easy to talk to. It was a really lovely opportunity.” All you have to do to enter is submit a piece of your own work of between 100 and 500 words. This could be a piece of homework, some creative writing, a book review or a report on an event. It can be something you have already written.

Please supply your name, school year and age and contact details of your parent or guardian, including a telephone number and/or email and the name of your school. You must live or go to school in Henley or the surrounding villages.

Please email it to Henley Standard editor Simon Bradshaw at sbradshaw@
henleystandard.co.uk and Siobhan Pratt, of the Henley Youth Festival, at siobhan
pratt@yahoo.co.uk by Sunday, February 18. The winners will be announced by Tuesday, February 20.

The festival runs from March 2 to 10.
