Henley youngsters put on Sunday best

YOUNGSTERS from Henley Hockey Club were out in force last Sunday when they competed in two tournaments.

Five teams from Year 2 — Antelopes, Bears, Cheetahs, Dragson and Eagles — travelled to Reading University to compete in the tournament hosted by Phoenix and Ranelagh.

The Antelopes won three and drew one of their four matches.

Wilf Tomlinson scored an impressive 19 goals during the tournament, with Tilly Christie also getting on the score sheet. Maisie Clark and Daphne Sutherland made good improvements during the game and Year 1 Joey Quinn also impressed.

The Bears won two, drew one and lost one of their games with Hughie Moorcroft scoring all eight of his side’s goals.

Each game saw the Bears playing teams with more players but Alice Friend, Arabella Downing and Grayson Hughes all showed good skills with accurate passing.

The Cheetahs lost all four matches despite scoring several goals. Freya Woodfin showed perseverance and ran fast while Lily Johnston scored four of the five goals and defended well with both players being named players of the tournament. The Dragons displayed good team play, winning the first three games but ran out of steam at the end losing the last game 5-4. Sid Gilbert and Ethan Bell shared the majority of the goals, with Amber Tover-Stuart and Immy Howorth also getting a goal each. Player of the tournament was Ethan Bell. The Eagles drew two and lost two but scored plenty of goals with Maisie Lamb being named player of the tournament.

The Year 3 tournament saw four teams — Antelopes, Bears, Cheetahs and Dragons — competing at Eton College.

The Antelopes won four and drew one of their five matches with Humph Armstrong being named player of the tournament.

The Bears won three, drew one and lost one of their matches. Leo Benfatti defended well, Austin Joyce scored numerous goals while Holly Hillier, Maddie Cooper and
Olivia Greaves performed
well.

The Cheetahs won three and drew two of their matches. Grace Hillier and Darcy Buckham-Hedges both scored four goals each and were players of the tournament.

The Dragons won all five of their matches in which Celia Hart was named player of the tournament.
