HENLEY 4ths slipped to defeat at Jubilee Park in their first fixture of the year at home to Banbury 4ths.
Henley fielded a strong team without a recognised goalkeeper, and from the start looked the better side with Nico Cheesman and Tim Herbert creating early chances for debutant Jamie Furness to get on the ball in the opposing D.
These opening salvos were soon forgotten following the awarding of a free hit to Banbury on the edge of the Henley goal area. Banbury’s centre forward responded quickest to the situation and drove straight into the Henley D and slotted the ball past the stationary keeper.
Worse was to come five minutes later when another free hit on the 25 yard line was driven into the Henley D evading the defence and skilfully deflected by a Banbury attacker into the corner of the goal.
Henley gained control for the remains of the first half and eventually the pressure paid off and from a short corner Julian Herbert scored.
