Final day victory not enough

DESPITE winning their final Trysports Three Counties League Premier Division 1 match of the season, Henley were relegated on Saturday as results elsewhere went against the visitors.

The first half saw opportunities for both teams with the play switching rapidly. The right side combination of Engelmark and Brown worked hard to forge forwards and Jeremy, Cousins, Lambourne and Butler ran tirelessly up front.

One short corner opportunity went wide and within minutes Green’s good ball into the D found no one.

In the second half Lavis found herself with plenty to do in goal as Maidenhead tried to get the opener. However, the keeper, along with the defensive unit of Heggie, Nutt, Pocock and Walker were resolute, making strong tackles and frustrating the opposition.

Player-of-the-match Engelmark, playing in both defensive and midfield roles, showed her strength and versatility while Green, Shaw and Harris patrolled the centre and left midfield and supported the running forwards.
