HOSTS Oxford University hit back with a second-half goal to deny Henley victory in Division 2 of the South Clubs’ League on Saturday.
The game began at a ferocious pace but Henley managed to thwart the early Oxford attacks countering effectively themselves.
They came close to opening the scoring twice when midfielder Roseff hit a shot straight at the Oxford keeper while Hickman nudged the ball just wide.
Henley continued to press the students hard and 15 minutes later the pressure paid off when captain Herbert stepped up and scored from a penalty corner.
Henley had to soak up wave after wave of Oxford pressure before half-time but they held on to go into the interval with a narrow lead.
Five minutes into the second half an attack from the hosts down their right side led to a well-worked equaliser.
Henley did not cave in and led by midfielder Lou England, the visitors continued to threaten. Both sides had opportunities to take the points as Henley had to defend a penalty corner in the dying seconds of the game. The result leaves Henley in third place in the table.
