HAVING earned promotion to the Trysports Premier 1 League last season, Henley 2nds opened the new season with defeat at home to Bicester 1sts.

From the outset Bicester were fast moving and quick on the break, leading to challenging periods for the Henley midfield and defence.

The opening goal came early on, splitting the midfield and resulting in a tap-in goal. Henley had a couple of opportunities in the D, winning the first of three short corners but Bicester were strong in defence and Henley were unable to take advantage.

In the second half Henley increased their work rate but it was the defence that needed to soak up the pressure with player-of-the-match Lavis making a series of fine saves.

Henley’s defence remained resolute with Pocock making some outstanding tackles at the back. The midfield and forwards worked hard to resist the breaks but the pressure told and the second goal for Bicester soon followed.
