HENLEY HOCKEY CLUB’S under 8s emerged as champions after an undefeated run in the Thames Valley
HENLEY HOCKEY CLUB’S under 8s emerged as champions after an undefeated run in the Thames Valley tournament held on Sunday.
The club took two teams to the sunny yet frosty Reading Hockey Club for the monthly junior tournament, which is competed for by teams from Reading and Marlow, Phoenix and Wokingham hockey clubs.
Henley’s Antelopes and Bears both played free-flowing hockey and were resilient in defence which helped them to record victories in all of their games. The teams were coached by Simon Taylor and Mike Woolfrey respectively.
The Henley Antelopes, which comprises Edward Bowyer, Lilian Graham, Adam Herbert, Woody Hurst, Tommy Lane, Purdy Nugent, Harry Rechner and Henry Roseff, defeated Marlow 3-1, Reading 3-0 and Phoenix 3-0 en route to the title.
The Henley Bears, which comprises Zoe Brindle, Jemima Eary, Alex Forehand, Wilfred Quin, Annabelle Richardson, Corey Sartin, Leigh Taylor, Ewan Van Duijin and Isabel Woolfrey, defeated Wokingham 2-0, Reading 4-1 and Marlow 2-1 to also record a clean sweep of victories.
