A TWO-GOAL comeback dented Henley’s Division 4 survival hopes.
Henley looked to be the superior of the two sides in the opening stages with some slick passing and some incisive attacking moves.
The midfield of John-Joe Cottam, Julian Herbert, Matthew Herbert and Ian Heggie seemed to control the game until a defensive slip-up led to a goal for the visitors.
But Henley’s Heggie delivered a superlative equaliser following some sublime skill and Barrass quickly doubled the lead.
A third was added by Cottam following a superb phase of play led by Matthew Herbert, taking Henley to a comfortable 3-1 lead at the interval.
But after the break, Henley could not keep up the momentum. Amersham raised their tempo, scoring two goals in quick succession.
It then became clear that they were suffering from the absence of injured talismanic defender Mike Woolfrey, without whom Henley lost their composure.
Amersham then took the lead and, with Henley chasing the game, they added another moments before the final whistle.
Henley 3rds: S Chamberlain, R Austin, E Newbold, M Cordrey, J-J Cottam, J Herbert, I Heggie, M Herbert, T Herbert, T Barrass, J Rechner, I Rechner.
