CHECKENDON Primary School has been named one of the best schools in the country for reading.
The school’s standard of achievement in last year’s key stage two SATs put it in the top one per cent in the country.
It received a letter of congratulations from Education Secretary Damian Hinds.
Meanwhile, the school is applying for the Arts Council Artsmark Silver Award for activities including drama, choirs and art.
It is also aiming for Christian Aid’s Global Neighbours Bronze Award and has already received the UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools bronze award for learning projects on issues including the refugee crisis and climate change.
Headteacher Gillian Seymour said: “It is fantastic to have so many exciting projects going on.”
