Vandalised track to be repaired

MORE than £2,000 will be spent on repairing the vandalised BMX track in Wargrave.

The track off East View Road has been closed after vandals made gashes and holes in the surface.

The damage is believed to have been caused with a metal pole or similar item.

It has made the track unsafe for use by children in case they hit one of the holes and fall off their bike.

Wargrave Parish Council has agreed to spend £2,260 overlaying the damaged areas in full rather than £1,210 on filling just the holes, which they felt could cause problems in future.

Parish clerk Stephen Hedges said: “Doing the overlay option is better — filling holes always causes problems. The track is very well used, which is a good thing, but it means the maintenance is high.”

The work is expected to be completed in time for an inspection by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents next month.

The inspectors will also look at the playground in the neighbouring recreation ground and the pond at Mumbery Field nature reserve.
