Pub shuts temporarily

A PUB in Caversham has been saved from closure.

The Baron Cadogan in Prospect Street will close on Sunday but will re-open later in the year after it was taken over by an independent landlord.

Darren Brett says he hopes to hire up to 30 staff and has agreed deals with food and drink suppliers.

The pub was run by Wetherspoon, which said the closure was for “commercial reasons” and that staff would be offered jobs at other pubs owned by the chain.

The pub is named after William Cadogan, who was commander-in-chief of the British army in the 18th century. He bought Caversham Park estate and was made Baron Cadogan of Reading.
