Shredding service not stopped by flooding

Shredding service not stopped by flooding

ABOUT 100 people took their Christmas trees to Mill Meadows in Henley to be shredded and recycled.

The town council’s parks service staff managed to provide the service in the car park on Saturday despite the flooding.

Karl Bishop and Clive Gibbs shredded the trees using an Ecogreen composter which uses an Archimedes drill to turn the brances into mulch.

Mr Bishop, parks service manager, said: “We had a steady flow of people all morning.”

Residents paid £2 each to have a tree shredded or £5 to have it collected from home. Most brought their trees by car but some dragged theirs there by hand.

Mr Gibbs said: “The great thing is that it’s all reusable, so we will mulch it all and then use it on all the paths.”

The service raised £474, which will go towards Henley in Bloom.
