A member of staff at Upton Hospital in Slough has been recognised with an award from Berkshire Healthcare for 50 years of service.

Mandy Proctor’s journey with the NHS began at the hospital in Albert Street in 1974 where she worked in a variety of departments, spanning from obstetrics and gynaecology to the medical care for the elderly department and more recently, sexual health.

She currently works as a medical secretary with the sexual health team at the Garden Clinic in Upton Hospital.

Mandy’s role includes supporting the HIV team, handling admissions and liaising with hospitals and GPs.

Her colleagues describe her as ‘more than a co-worker – she’s family’.

To recognise the milestone, Mandy was presented with a special award by Berkshire Healthcare chief executive, Julian Emms.

Mandy said: “It does seem amazing to think about 50 years as a whole.

“Upton Hospital feels like a big family, and I have always loved coming into work.

“I still thoroughly enjoy working for Berkshire Healthcare and hope to have many more years here.”

Julian Emms said: “We have some remarkable people in the NHS, but Mandy’s 50 years of service is an extraordinary landmark.

“It’s both a pleasure and a privilege to recognise such outstanding public service.”
