Twelve independent businesses inducted into refreshed playing cards pack

TWELVE new businesses have been inducted into the latest pack of Henley Playing Cards.

A “reveal” night was held at the Flyte bar in Henley last Friday where supporters could see the new line-up in a supersized format.

New to the pack are Anthony Paul Jewellery, Audley Shiplake Meadows, Flyte bar, Healthium spa, Imma The Bakery, the Little Angel pub, Simon Mack Architecture, Menza Café, Relais Henley, the Row Barge pub, Henley Rugby Club and the Three Horseshoes pub.

Returning to the pack, which was last refreshed in June last year, are Leander Club and Oaken Grove Vineyard.

The pack contains 54 cards in total, the usual 52 cards and two “wild cards” and focuses on independent businesses and giving them a voice. All are designed by illustrator Nicola Metcalfe.

Emma Sweet, founder of Henley Playing Cards, said: “It’s always a joy unveiling the new cards and seeing people’s reactions in person.

“We keep the pack updated so it continues to reflect the very best of Henley and the excitement from those coming into the pack has been brilliant to see.”

The event also highlighted the ongoing impact of Henley Card Club, the monthly community meet-up which has now been running for more than a year.

Through optional donations at the events, the club has raised £200 to date, with all proceeds going to the Chiltern Centre in Henley, which supports disabled young adults.

Ms Sweet, who lives in Knowl Hill, said: “Henley Card Club started as a simple way to connect people.

“To see it running strong after a year is something I’m genuinely proud of.”

More than 8,000 packs of Henley Playing Cards have been sold so far, with 25p from its £10 sale price going to the Kenton Theatre.

A pack of Marlow Playing Cards, with 11 new cards, was launched on Monday.

Henley Playing Cards are stocked by local retailers and are also available online at www.aceplaces.co.uk
