TWO Caversham nurseries will reopen on Wednesday after a suspension was lifted by the regulator.
Ofsted closed the Playday sites in Milestone Way and Hemdean Road on January 12 after receiving concerns the provider was not meeting requirements relating to children's safety and welfare concerns and safeguarding policies and procedures.
The watchdog said the suspension allows the provider time to reduce or eliminate the risk of harm, but means it is not permitted to provide childcare while in place.
Nursery manager Jan Day, who said the nursery appeal the suspension, has been approached for comment.
Ofsted confirmed today it had lifted the suspension following site visits last Friday.
During the visits, the nursery provider was found not to be meeting some requirements in the statutory framework for the early years foundation stage.
The nursery was served a legal notice, requiring it take several actions by February 9.
These include taking reasonable steps to ensure staff suitability, ongoing comprehensive oversight of staff’s practice, and ensuring that staff references are independent and legitimate.
They are also required to improve oversight for the designated safeguarding lead to ensure concerns around children’s safety and welfare are dealt with in accordance with safeguarding guidance, and maintain accurate and precise records.
Ofsted has said it will monitor the provider’s response to ensure the required actions are implemented.
