Talking & teamwork replace lessons for creativity day

PUPILS at Langtree School in Woodcote enjoyed a range of activities as part of their annual creativity day.

Their timetable was put on hold for the event, which is now in its fourth year, so they could take part in sports, games, dancing and day trips.

Students in year 7 played team-building games on the school fields. They were split into nine groups and had to complete tasks such as building a camping stove, putting up a tent and playing volleyball with a water balloon and a tarpaulin.

Another challenge involved building a stretcher out of rope then carrying their classmates a short distance.

Teacher Helen Cave, who supervised the children, said: “They learned to listen to each other and consider different ways of approaching the tasks. We mixed up all the different tutor groups so they were working with pupils they might not talk to very often.



“It wasn’t particularly warm outside but they all got stuck in. They thoroughly enjoyed it and performed brilliantly.”

Year 11 students took part in a dance workshop led by theatre company Frantic Assembly while others visited Warwick Castle to support their history studies. A workshop on public speaking and delivering presentations called “Talk The Talk” was held for the pupils in year 9.

Headteacher Rick Holroyd said: “Our creativity day was a huge success yet again and the students engaged with it fully.

“They all went home with big smiles on their faces having learned many valuable new skills.”
