Thrushes arrive in numbers to feed

Thrushes arrive in numbers to feed

Sir, — A couple of months ago one of your correspondents reported on the absence of garden birds.

I had not seen any blackbirds, which are normally regulars in our garden, until now. We went from famine to feast with the arrival of a flock of redwings. These small thrushes come over from Scandinavia when food is scarce there.

They have been feeding on the holly berries outside our bedroom window. — Yours faithfully,

Hugh Archibald
