Venus shining before winter solstice

Sir, — I thought your readers might be interested in this shot of Venus below the moon somewhat before the recent winter solstice, looking just west of south from my garden. The silhouetted trees are mainly beech.

Here, we’re about 600ft above mean sea level east of the common at Maidensgrove. I tried various camera settings but I couldn’t really improve on the “intelligent auto” setting. Must get lessons! — Yours faithfully,
