Pictures will remind me of ‘home’

Pictures will remind me of ‘home’

I took these picture by the river in Henley on Sunday and Mum suggested I send them to you.

I was visiting my parents, Don and Brenda Steptoe, from America and flew back the next day.

They recently moved back to Henley from Caversham. Dad was born in Henley and Mum arrived in her teens from South London. They met at the Catherine Wheel in 1953 and were married in 1956.

Dad rowed and played rugby for Henley Rugby Club for many years and Mum’s parents used to run the Ye Lion pub.

I have lived in Seattle for more than 16 years and my brother has been in Toronto for more than 30 years.

I wanted to take a trip over to see how Mum and Dad were settling in and we had a lovely time.

We saw relatives, went out to see friends in Whitney, went to the Bull and Butcher at Turville (twice) and climbed the Mount, which my brother and I loved to do when we were children. We also went to visit Tony and Jackie Hobbs — Tony has been my dad’s best friend since Henley Grammar School and is my godfather.

Mum and Dad are settling in well and very pleased to be back in Henley. I’m pleased to have been able to visit them in one of my favourite towns.

I run every morning and the weather was perfect when I took the pictures (I had left snow in Seattle) — Yours faithfully,

Debbie Walsh
