Sir, - There are many, many serious issues to be dealt with in our world and we need serious people to deal with them.
Based on his letter (Standard, January 17), Councillor David Silvester is not a serious person. If he wants to hold and share his, in my opinion, parochial, insular, bigoted and hateful views, that is entirely up to him and I applaud the Henley Standard for publishing them.
I do not agree with him at all. However, we are extremely fortunate to have free speech and a free press in this country. As a result of this, Mr Silvester has exposed himself as a religious extremist whose views seem to discount meteorology and basic statistics.
