YOUNGSTER Leo Robinson can now add the Motor Sports Association Bambino Winter Championship to his growing list of accolades.
The seven-year-old Rupert House School pupil won the final of the competition at the Fulbeck Kart circuit near Grantham in Lincolnshire last weekend.
Leo set the initial pace in practice despite having never driven at the circuit before. He then went on to win the first two heats.
But he lost time in the last heat which resulted in him qualifying in second position for the final.
This starting position was, however, a benefit on the long straights as as it allowed him to slipstream the front runner, with both of them establishing a lead over the rest of field. Leo then executed a spectacular pass under braking for the final corner complex on the last lap. Leo held his line to take the chequered flag a few metres ahead of the next kart.
The winter championship round precedes the 2016 MSA Bambino Championship which will be contested over eight rounds at circuits in England, Scotland and Wales starting on March 27.
The Motor Sports Association Bambino Championship is a high-level national karting race series for six, seven and eight-year-olds. The karts are powered by identical 50cc two-stroke engines and reach speeds in excess of 45mph.
