A MELTING pot of acoustic music, Johnny Cash tunes and good old-fashioned storytelling comes to the River and Rowing Museum at the beginning of June.
Deep Crucible 3 is the third event organised by Henley music-lover Terence Corness, and aims to showcase original local talent in a venue where it can be appreciated — far from the noise and hubbub of usual pub gigs.
“I’m a life-long gig-goer,” said Terence. “I’ve got a real passion for music. One night I was talking to my friend, Diyar Abdullah, a musician, and we agreed that sometimes you go to a gig and don’t really get to hear and appreciate the music because people are talking.”
And the concept of Deep Crucible was born. Their first two music nights were staged at the Workhouse Coffee Shop in Reading’s George Hotel, but the third, on Saturday, June 1 will take place in the main gallery and the Thames Room of the museum. Guest artists include songwriters Megan Henwood, Andy Mallen and Harry Phillips. Jack Cade from Reading will play a solo acoustic set with his Johnny Cash-style “gritty, gravelly” voice and there will also be storytelling from Frenchman Michaël Gulliver Vidon. Artwork from local painter Jo Keiller will also be on display.
