THE powers-that-be at the Kenton Theatre were all aflutter last week when they announced that they had signed up a surprise guest for November, writes Lesley Potter.
“Can’t wait to see the legendary Kiki Dee perform at the Kenton 15 November,” they tweeted.
Kiki, most famous for her Don’t Go Breaking My Heart duet with Elton John back in 1976, will be playing with her long-term performing partner, guitarist Carmelo Luggeri.
The pair released their third studio album A Place Where I Can Go last year, the same year as the 67-year-old was celebrating 50 years in the music business.
She started singing with local bands in Bradford in the Sixties and went on to sing backing vocals for a number of artists, including Dusty Springfield. She signed with Elton John’s record label the Rocket Record Company and became a household name.
