Heartwarming concert of music and celebration
Queen Anne’s School
Thursday, November 20
THE incredible Zimbabwean singer Linda Mudzenda, Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalist and golden buzzer winner, was joined by choirs from Queen Anne’s and Crosfields schools at a joyful evening of music in aid of the Jacaranda Trust.
The evening opened with a wonderful performance from Queen Anne’s talented Year 11 band, Inedible, playing Sweet Child O’ Mine.
This was followed by the lively and enthusiastic Crosfields School lower junior choir, who sang three vibrant songs, Mi Caballo Blanco, The Osprey and Ocean Commotion. Their natural enthusiasm and love of singing shone through, impressing Linda so much that she was moved to tears.
In a truly magical moment Linda spontaneously invited the children to join her on stage for the finale, performing I Believe and One Love with her in front of a delighted audience.
Queen Anne’s fabulous Year 13 band, Shortlisted, performed a set of three rock numbers from Fleetwood Mac, Young the Giant and the Kooks.
The very talented Queen Anne’s Chamber Choir finished the first half with three beautiful songs, May It Be, by Enya, Fields of Gold, by Sting, and Irish Blessing, by
P Stopford.
The choirs and bands were of a very high standard and their performances were much enjoyed by the audience.
In the second half, Linda began her set with the very moving Nkosi Sikelela Africa (God Bless Africa). Linda’s beautiful voice reigned supreme as she sang a stunning full set ending with One Love and was joined on stage by both choirs. The combination of her voice and the choirs was both joyful and magical.
The evening raised £3,000 for the Michael Project to help purchase a minibus to transport children and families in their care.
Jacaranda Trust, a charity supporting vulnerable children in Zimbabwe, thanked both schools for their wonderful participation and to Linda Mudzenda for helping it all to happen.
