YOU’VE watched the movie and seen the musical, and go on, admit it, you wouldn’t mind having a go at belting out some of those big numbers yourself, writes Lesley Potter. Well now is your chance.
Professional vocal coach Anthony Witt is holding a Les Mis Big Sing in Reading next Saturday afternoon, February 16, and anyone can join in to learn a few songs from Les Misérables.
Witt, musical director of Reading-based choir the Witt Studio Chorus, was inspired to run the workshop after teaching a number from the musical to his choir, which was performed to great acclaim at their showcase at the Wesley Methodist Church last November.
Joining him to run the workshop is soprano Philippa Healey, who played the part of Cosette in a West End production of the musical.
Louise Morgan, Witt Studio Chorus business manager, said: “There are no auditions, and people are not asked to sing by themselves — and everybody is welcome to take part, whether you are an experienced singer, or want to try singing in a group for the first time. Music copy and teaching is provided — just bring your vocal cords and a revolutionary spirit!”
She added that the emphasis of the afternoon event is to have fun.
The workshop runs at the Wesley Centre, Queen’s Road, Reading on Saturday, February 16 from 2pm to 5.30pm. At 5pm, the afternoon is rounded off with a performance of the songs alongside soloists. Friends and family are invited to come along and watch free of charge. The workshop costs £20, £10 concessions. To book your place visit www.thewittstudio.com
