BENNY GALLAGHER is best-known as one half of the Scots duo Gallagher and Lyle, but in fact this singer and songwriter has collaborated with the great and the good of the music world, including Paul McCartney and Eric Clapton. In April there is a chance to listen to him sing and tell anecdotes in an intimate evening at the Crooked Billet in Stoke Row.

Gallagher began his career as a staff writer with the Beatles’ record company, Apple, and he considers his formative years there — and the constant encouragement from McCartney — as one of the most important factors in his development as a songwriter.

He formed the duo with Lyle in 1972 and produced several albums until they split in 1979. Their hit songs included Heart On My Sleeve and I Wanna Stay With You.

His songs have been performed by artists such as Simon and Garfunkel and Don Williams.
