OPERA in the grounds of the 18th century Stubbings House has been a feature of the summer season for the past 15 years.

This year, Bizet’s Carmen will be presented on two nights — Friday and Saturday, July 26 and 27 — by the Garden Opera Company, with leading roles sung by principals recruited from English National Opera.

On the Thursday night Stubbings will present for the first time an evening of English folk music, both traditional and contemporary, with a cast of performers including some of the best-known folk names in the country.

The grounds open at 5.30pm for picnics, and performances begin at 7.30pm. For tickets go to www. stubbingsestate.com
