BEL CANTO Chorus, a choir for upper voices, is delighted that founding musical director Nicky Jerrome is returning to the choir after a break of more than two years.

Nicky studied music at the University of Bristol and conducted with the Sing For Pleasure organisation. She has worked as a private music teacher and accompanist in the local area for a number of years.

She became musical director of Bel Canto Chorus in 2008 and left in 2011 to have her second child. She has spent the intervening years raising her young family, continuing her teaching and accompanying work and building her conducting experience working as a stand-in conductor for other local choirs.

In late 2010 Nicky ran a successful Learn To Sing Course for Bracknell Choral Society aimed at people who wanted to join a choir but lacked confidence.

Nicky is passionate about passing on her love of music to others, helping them to achieve their best through a little bit of hard work and a lot of fun.

The chorus is looking to recruit additional sopranos and altos to start the new term on September 9. They rehearse term-time on Monday evenings from 8pm to 10pm at Pearson Hall, Sonning.

Spokeswoman Helen Hobson said: “It is a great place to make new friends and benefit from the proven health benefits of singing. So ladies, if you have been thinking about joining a friendly, established, high standard choir with a wide and interesting repertoire, come along and try us out on September 9. You’ll be made very welcome.”
