A VICTORIAN Christmas is the theme for the first festive concert at Nettlebed Village Club on Monday.

Acclaimed historical entertainment company Blast From The Past invite you to join them for an evening of music, song, stories and drama from the time of Dickens and Hardy.

Featuring Chris Green (Isambarde, Playford Liberation Front) on mandocello, guitar and accordion, Sophie Matthews (the Oxford Waites) on flute and baroque oboe and Steph West (the British ParaOrchestra, Shooting Roots) on harp and fiddle, the cast invite you to join them for some of your favourite carols (with songsheets provided) as well as introducing you to some more obscure but no less beautiful festive songs from the 19th century.

They also perform a festive masked play based upon a traditional English folk tale.

Finally, there’s a Christmas tale of the court of King Arthur — a figure revived in the Victorian era by authors and poets such as Sir Walter Scott and Tennyson. Featuring damsels in distress, deeds of chivalry, an epic quest and of course a happy ending the tale is told in two parts across the two halves of the show.

The show takes place at Nettlebed Village Club on Monday, December 2. Tickets on the door.
