A JAZZ concert at the Oratory School in Woodcote raised £600 for charity

A JAZZ concert at the Oratory School in Woodcote raised £600 for charity.

More than 170 people attended the evening function, which was organised by the independent school's Hopkins Society. Visitors enjoyed a champagne reception before the performance.

The programme, directed by pianist Gary Howarth, featured the school jazz band and pupils from the Oratory Prep School in Goring Heath. Also taking part were staff members Fr Ken Macnab and Phil Chaundy.

There were solo performances by singer Jack Camilleri, an upper sixth form student, and former Oratory pupil and songwriter Matt Maltese.

Trumpeter Mark Armstrong, director of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, was the guest musician. He played alongside bassist Alexander L'Estrange and drummer Felix Higginbottom. Earlier in the day, Mr Armstrong led a workshop for the school's music students.

The night was in aid of Mary's Meals, which provides food and school equipment for children in developing countries.

A school spokesman said: "The exceptional standard of musical performance from all those involved made this a truly magnificent evening."
