The 29-venue tour opens at Hackney’s Empire Theatre tomorrow (Saturday) and has a different local choir performing at each venue.
Musical director Russell Scott says: “Across the country the standard and volume of choirs that have applied to join us as part of the
Godspell in Concert tour has completely exceeded our expectations.
“We have reworked the orchestration for an ensemble and adding choirs extends the community feel of the show, adds an  exciting new dimension to  the score and brings with it additional electricity.
“In this intimate concert format, it will leave the audience feeling exhilarated and uplifted.”
In 1972 the show turned David Essex into an overnight sensation and more recently it has enjoyed a hugely successful run on Broadway.
This tour will feature a new rock score including favourites such as
Light of the World,
All Good Gifts and
Day by Day.
