Pianist to tackle Chopin, Ravel and Haydn

CHAMBER music specialists Concerts in Caversham have confirmed full details of their “almost fifth anniversary” autumn concert featuring the brilliant young pianist Yuko Sano.

St Andrew’s Church in Albert Road is the venue for the recital on Saturday, October 10, which will mark almost exactly five years since Concerts in Caversham started up.

Concerts in Caversham spokeswoman Adrienne Black said: “Yuko will play a delightful programme, to include well-known works by Chopin, Ravel and Lizst, which will demonstrate both her wonderful virtuosity and musicianship.”

by Schubert-Lizst, followed by Haydn’s

The programme includes a short interval when refreshments will be served.

Yuko Sano made her successful debut recital in Tokyo at the age of 16 to an audience of 1,200. She then went on to study at the Liszt Music Academy in Budapest, before being awarded a full postgraduate scholarship to study with Christopher Elton and Michael Dussek at the Royal Academy of Music, where she won the Maud Hornsby Award at the end of her first year.

She also won the highest prize at the Burckhardt International Piano Competition and the first prize and Grand Prix in all categories at the PIARA Piano Competition.

She has performed piano concertos with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra and made her London debut at The Rest is Noise festival at the Southbank Centre. She has given recitals throughout the UK, in Europe and Japan, and is a Young Concert Artist for Steinway Pianos.

Tickets for the concert, which starts at 7.30pm are £16/£18 in advance or £18/£20 on the door.

Advance tickets may be purchase from Waltons the Jewellers in Prospect Street, Caversham. Payment is by cash only and Waltons are closed on Mondays.
